If you are looking for a pair of yoga leggings that is sustainable and comfortable as silk (although it’s not silk… actually made out of organic bamboo), keep reading. Boody Eco Wear is also popular for their eco friendly, super comfortable underwear, so you can already imagine how comfortable their leggings must be. Although they only have two colors to offer, they have different lengths to suit your preference and style. You can read more about Boody Eco Wear below before I dive into the review.

Who is Boody Eco Wear?

They are an Australian-born company, who like to keep it simple and minimalist, while providing their customers with the basic essentials. And of course their focus is to be sustainable, whilst at the same time providing high quality and comfortable fabric. All of their products are made out of organic bamboo, and they are really transparent regarding the processes that take place from planting the bamboo until the shipment phase. Not only are they based in Australia, but also in San Diego, and as well as having retailers in 15 different countries.

Their company consists of 4 pillars:

  1. Sustainability – their bamboo is 100% organically grown in China, and as well as the yarn is produced there. Their bamboo is certified by OCIA (The Organic Crop Improvement Association). To ensure that the process of making the yarn is also free of toxic chemicals, their yarn is certified by Oeko-Tex 100.
  2. Ethics – they ensure to minimize their carbon footprints as much as possible, and they are transparent about it. They carry the following certifications in order to ensure that their company is as sustainable as possible: ECO CERT, OEKO-TEX, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), PETA Vegan Approved, SGS (General Society of Surveillance – originally in French), ISO 14001 & ISO 9001, and last but not least WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production).
  3. Quality – their process of turning the bamboo into yarn is done in a “closed-loop system”, which I have explained here. They ensure quality from beginning to end.
  4. Giving Back – they sell a “Boody Giving Bracelet” to their customers – in which 100% of the profit goes to African Women entrepreneurs, and also donated to the organization “Goodbye Malaria”.

Now, let’s dive into their beautiful active leggings below!

Active High-Waisted Full Leggings

Product: Boody Eco Wear – Active High-Waisted Full LeggingsBoody Eco Wear High-Waisted Full Leggings

Where to Buy: Boody Eco Wear

Colors Available: Black & Dark Grey Marl

Price: USD$69.95

Available Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL

My Rating: 8/10

These high-waisted full leggings are super comfy, but at the same time they make sure that they don’t roll down. The leggings are 87% made out of organic bamboo rayon, and 13% spandex. Being made from these materials, the fabric retains moisture, avoid any odors, mega breathable, anti static, and thermoregulating. The sides are seam free, and their Inseam are 27-inch, and have a 4-way stretch. This legging is more appropriate for doing light to mid range exercises like yoga, and for everyday wear.

PROS:

  • Really comfortable
  • Great for sensitive skin, as bamboo fabric is hypoallergenic as well
  • Eco Friendly – just buying one of these leggings can have a positive impact such as: avoiding 1.4 miles of driving emissions, saving 361 hours of LED light bulb energy, saving 54.6 gallons of drinking water, and farming 10.9 sq. ft. of land without pesticides.

CONS:

  • Not too much compression, so probably not the best legging to run in or weight training
  • If you are short waisted (shorter torso), these will not be for you (check my review below on the regular active leggings)
  • According to many reviews, please be aware of the size (you may need to order a size down)

Kindly note it seems that they only have the high waisted version in their U.S. store (at the time of writing on June 2020). If you prefer 3/4 active high-waisted leggings, you can check them out here.

Active Full Leggings

Product: Boody Eco Wear – Active Full LeggingsActive Full Leggings

Where to Buy: Boody Eco Wear

Colors Available: Black & Dark Grey Marl

Price: USD$65.95

Available Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL

My Rating: 9/10

These leggings are mid-rise, meaning they should reach just below the belly button. It has many of the same features as the legging listed above, however there are some key differences: it’s made out of 80% organic bamboo rayon & 20% spandex, small hidden pocket in the front part of the waistband, and more hugging support.

PROS:

  • Same benefits as above
  • More compression compared to the one above – so can use for a light run
  • Lightweight

CONS:

  • Sizing – just be aware of their sizing guide on their website, and make sure you contact customer service for any suggestions according to your needs (as some people like to order a size down, or even a size up depending on what they prefer). You might also want to ask regarding your height, as there are some reviews mentioning that the pants are too long for shorter people (like me! 🙂 ).

Alternatively, they also have the active 3/4 leggings, this may be an alternative if you think that the active full leggings will be too long for you.

Active High-Waisted Short

Product: Boody Eco Wear – High-Waisted ShortHigh-Waisted Short

My Rating: 9/10

These shorts are high-waisted which go from above the belly button, the 5-inch goes until mid thigh level, while the shorter one has a 2-inch inseam. These shorts also have a hidden pocket at the waist. They are made out of 87% organic bamboo rayon & 13% spandex. These are great for yoga, going on a bike ride, or just walking around.

PROS:

  • Like mentioned above, the quality of the material is high, making it super comfortable, and at the same time eco friendly & hypoallergenic
  • Very versatile

CONS:

  • Pricey – but the quality and durability makes up for it
  • Could have a little more compression in the waistband
  • Like the high-waisted pants, just watch out if high-waisted is appropriate for your body type (like having a shorter torso).

These shorts are pretty much like the ones above, except that it’s mid-rise, which means the waistband goes below your belly button. I gave these rating a 10, as it has a lot of positive reviews, and they are my favorite so far. Oh and by the way, they are great for hot yoga!

  • Versatile

  • Pricey – but the quality and durability makes up for it
  • Make sure to read their sizing guidelines, also if your thighs are thicker, you may consider sticking to the 5 inch mid-rise shorts (so that they don’t roll up)

FAQ

  1. How do I care for my Boody leggings?
Please follow the instructions on your boody legging regarding how you should wash it. But overall, use warm water to wash it & eco friendly detergent (which you can purchase at Earth Hero, and you can use my coupon “FERNANDA” to get a discount!). And if you haven’t read my article yet on microfibers, you should take a look – as these leggings are still 13%-20% made out of spandex.
  2. How about their packaging, is it eco friendly?
Their packaging is recycled, and they print on it with vegetable-based ink. However, each item does come in different packaging…so if you buy several items, they send several boxes. This is something they need to work on.
  3. What are my payment options?
American Express, Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, as well as you can use “Afterpay”, in which you can pay in installments – this is great when you are not able to pay all at once.

  1. Thank you so much for this beautiful review! I will be the first to admit that I hadn’t heard of Boody Eco Wear before reading your review, but this sounds like an excellent product! I exercise regularly and am highly active (I play basketball and run), and I also love to wear leggings as it is. I love African culture, so hearing that the leggings were made from organic bamboo automatically caught my attention (I’m promoting African culture, supporting a worthy cause (assisting African entrepreneurs and eradicating malaria), and helping to protect the environment? Sign me up! Haha). The fact that the leggings both look and feel good is the icing on the cake. You did an excellent job of providing us with a thorough and objective review of Boody Eco Wear-I have saved your site and will definitely be back! Great read! God bless you!

    1. Hi C.N., and thank you for your lovely comment and for dropping by. I am glad that now you know regarding this brand 🙂

  2. Hello Fernanda,

Thank you for writing this wonderful article.

I have very sensitive skin, and am a big fan of bamboo clothing, but was wondering how well these fabrics can handle being washed and dried in a machine.

Do they have a tendency to shrink? Should I hang dry them?

    Thanks

    Michael

    1. Hi Michael, great question!
Organic Bamboo clothing is great for people who have a sensitive skin. Bamboo clothing, like cotton clothing, can actually stretch out a little bit over time. But if you follow the washing instructions, then it should last even longer than cotton. You can wash them in warm water with biodegradable laundry detergent, and then air dry them in the shade. Hope that helps!

  3. What a great article- as a dancer I absolutely adore bamboo leggings so love finding out about new brands. As you say, they’re so soft and comfortable, and although pricey, they last so much longer so really they are very cost effective. I really like that this company are so transparent and also that they support African Women Entrepreneurs with their bracelets and the charity “Goodbye Malaria.” I also really like that they take effort to minimise their carbon footprint, as this shows that they take ethical responsibility for their part in helping the planet which is so great. My favourite are the mid rise shorts and next time I’m looking for new bamboo wear I’ll be sure to stop by your site as they are a company I’d really like to buy from. Thanks so much 🙂

  4. This is a great post, I am such a fan of sustainable activewear so it’s brilliant to hear of other brands out there and other people’s experience of them. Bamboo is such an incredible material and can be farming in such sustainable ways that I’m sure it will be seen much more in our clothes of the future. Thanks for sharing

    1. Hi Hatty and thanks for stopping by! I hope so as well that organic bamboo becomes more available 🙂

  5. Great review of eco-friendly active wear. I see this as an emerging niche, with people becoming increasingly aware of the huge environmental impact associated with buying clothing.

Good to know about the sizes not being completely accurate too, there’s nothing more frustrating than not knowing how the size will actually fit, so thanks for pointing that out.

    1. Hi Sharon, yes I agree that people are becoming more and more aware regarding how we can harm the environment with our clothing. Regarding their sizing, it can definitely be frustrating, but thankfully they have an awesome customer service team who are really friendly and helpful regarding any questions for the sizing of the leggings.
